# Introducing Parley

> The fastest path to get started with Parley

Parley is where your legal team's casework happens.

Ask it to draft a brief, complete a form, assemble an exhibit packet, or research a legal question, and it produces work product from your team's own materials.

As you work, the case management underneath keeps itself current.

## Start here

<Steps>
  <Step title="Connect your email and calendar">
    Go to **Settings → Email & Calendar** and continue with Google or Microsoft authentication.

    Parley links your emails and calendar to your matters, drafts your replies, and takes notes in your meetings.

    <CardGroup cols={1}>
      <Card title="Emails organized by matter">
        Emails sort themselves into the right matter, so Parley can draft and research from your full client history.
      </Card>

      <Card title="Auto drafted emails in your inbox">
        Every email that needs a reply gets a draft written in your tone, ready for you to review and send.
      </Card>

      <Card title="Meeting recordings">
        A notetaker joins your external meetings to record, transcribe, and capture the highlights automatically.
      </Card>
    </CardGroup>

    Only you can see the email content Parley syncs, unless you choose to share it with your team. See [Email and calendar](/integrations/email-and-calendar) for the visibility options.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Import your data">
    Bring your firm's case history. Your spreadsheet full of dates you need to track. Your case management system's companies, contacts, tasks, matters, and notes.

    You can add all of it to Parley directly through the Agent.

    Parley has an **import-data Skill** that handles migrations agentically — it reads what you give it, creates the records, and builds custom fields on your behalf to match how your team already works

    This is the path off your existing case management system. See [Migration](/migration/importing-clients) for the detail.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create Skills">
    Skills are reusable prompts and examples that apply to your work in Parley.

    Start with your firm: your role, your practice area, and uploaded letterhead and formatting examples for the Parley Agent to leverage. That single Skill improves everything Parley produces afterward.

    Then focus on key work products: particular filings, cover letters, contract playbooks, or court filing procedures. Upload a sample and Parley writes the Skill for you, then applies it automatically to your work. See [Skills](/memory-and-skills/skills).
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Open Parley and type **onboard me** and Parley will walk you through this live.
</Tip>

## The model

Parley organizes around three records. Records are linked to one another so details about the companies and people related to a matter can be tracked, reported on, and leveraged across cases.

| Record      | What it holds                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             |
| ----------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Project** | A matter. Client evidence, drafts, chat threads, and every work product Parley generates for it.<br /><br />A Project may also relate to an internal initiative or client work across multiple matters. Projects are used when dense and detailed document processing is required to inform complex work. |
| **Account** | A company. This may be your corporate client or the employer of your client. Store prior filings, organize corporate correspondence, engagement letters, or reusable exhibits, to leverage across matters. |
| **Contact** | A company. This may be your corporate client or the employer of your client. Store prior filings, organize corporate correspondence, engagement letters, or reusable exhibits, to leverage across matters. |

## How the system thinks

Four key ideas to help get the most out of Parley.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="You can find anything by chatting">
    Parley searches across every file and every note on every project, account, or contact. Information does not have to become a structured field to be retrievable. If it lives in a document or a note somewhere on the case, ask for it directly.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A field is for what you want at a glance">
    Create a field when you want quick visual access to something and it applies consistently across most cases, contacts, or accounts. Owners and Admins can tell the Agent what fields to create, or edit them directly in Settings. If you just want to jot something down, you ask Parley to save it as a note.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The best fields are self-driving">
    Parley reads the documents, notes, and emails linked to a project, account, or contact and keeps those fields current on its own. Your team does the casework in Parley, and the case management takes care of itself.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The deepest value is the system">
    Parley gets most valuable when your firm writes down how it already works. How you build each petition type, how you organize evidence, how you fill forms. Ask Parley to codify it once in a Skill and every work product after comes together the same way.
  </Accordion>
