# Parley for Outlook Source: https://docs.parley.so/addins/parley-for-outlook Draft email responses, query matter data, and conduct legal research from inside Outlook, without leaving your inbox. ## Installing the add-in We recommend installing it from inside Outlook itself. Parley for Outlook is also available on its [Microsoft Marketplace listing](https://marketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/product/office/wa200011741). **1. Open Outlook** Open Outlook on your desktop or on the web. **2. Go to More apps** Select **More apps**, then choose **Add apps**. **3. Find Parley** Search for **Parley** and select **Add**. **4. Sign in** Open the Parley pane and sign in with the same account you use at [app.parley.so](https://app.parley.so). > [!NOTE] > > If your firm centrally manages Office add-ins, your IT admin may need to approve Parley before it appears. Point them at [founders@parley.so](mailto:founders@parley.so) if they have questions. ## Permissions and access * The Outlook Add-In only accesses emails at the individual email level, not the entire mailbox. It only accesses the email that is in read or compose form, meaning the selected email. We use the read/write item permission detailed [here](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/dev/add-ins/outlook/understanding-outlook-add-in-permissions). * Access can be granted centrally by a Microsoft 365 admin, who can specify certain users or user groups. ### What the consent screen asks for The first time you add Parley, Outlook shows a permissions dialog. The add-in is published by **Parley Technologies Inc.**, and the capabilities it requests are: | Capability | What it means in practice | | - | - | | Read and modify the active message — body, subject, sender, recipients, and attachment information — and send that data to a third-party service | Parley reads only the message you have open in read or compose mode, and sends it to the Parley service so the Agent can draft, summarize, or file it. Other items in your mailbox cannot be read or modified. | | Access your profile information, such as name, email address, company name, and preferred language | Used to match you to your Parley account and workspace when you sign in. | | Send data over the internet | Processing happens in the Parley service rather than on your device, so the message you act on leaves Outlook over an encrypted connection. | The third-party service named in that dialog is Parley itself. For how that data is stored, retained, and protected once it reaches us, see [Security and compliance](/security-and-compliance/overview). ## The add-in and inbox sync The add-in is for acting on a message directly in Microsoft Outlook. [Email and calendar sync](/connectors/email-and-calendar) is the background process that keeps your cases and correspondence aligned within Parley. # Parley for Word Source: https://docs.parley.so/addins/parley-for-word Bring the Agent into Microsoft Word to revise drafts with tracked, word-level redlines. The Word Add-In puts the Parley Agent in a pane beside your document, so you can revise a draft where you already do your final editing, and review every change as a tracked redline before you accept it. ## Installing the add-in We recommend installing it from inside Word itself. Parley for Word is also available on its [Microsoft Marketplace listing](https://marketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/product/office/wa200007249). > [!TIP] > > To install from Parley, open your account menu at [app.parley.so](https://app.parley.so) and select **Use Parley in Word**. Parley opens Microsoft Word on your desktop and prompts you to add the add-in, so you can skip searching AppSource. This requires Word for desktop to be installed. To install from inside Word: **1. Open Word** Open Microsoft Word on your desktop, with any document open or a blank one. **2. Go to Add-ins** On the **Home** tab, select **Add-ins**. Depending on your version of Word, this may appear under **Insert → Add-ins**. **3. Find Parley** Choose **Find more Add-ins at Microsoft AppSource**, search for **Parley**, and select **Add**. **4. Sign in** Open the Parley pane and sign in with the same account you use at [app.parley.so](https://app.parley.so). Your firm's Projects and Skills come with you. > [!NOTE] > > If your firm centrally manages Office add-ins, your IT admin may need to approve Parley before it appears in the list. Point them at [founders@parley.so](mailto:founders@parley.so) if they have questions. ## Word-level redlines When the Agent revises your draft, it marks up only the language that changed. Instead of striking a whole paragraph and replacing it, you see the specific surgical changes. ## Working with a Project Add a Project as context and the Agent drafts from the case's evidence, Notes, and shared memory rather than only what's open in the Word document. With a Project attached, you can ask for the things that require case context: * Revise a section to match the argument in the petition * Tighten language while preserving defined terms used elsewhere in the filing * Pull a fact from the evidence and cite the exhibit it came from Your firm's [Skills](/memory-and-skills/skills) apply here too, so letterhead and house formatting carry into what the Agent writes. # Permissions Source: https://docs.parley.so/admin/permissions What Owners, Admins, and Members can each do in Parley. Parley has three roles: **Owner**, **Admin**, and **Member**. Permissions are cumulative. An Owner can do everything an Admin can do, and an Admin can do everything a Member can do. ## At a glance | | **Member** | **Admin** | **Owner** | | - | - | - | - | | Case work, drafting, and Projects | Yes | Yes | Yes | | Build personal Skills | Yes | Yes | Yes | | Publish Skills to the whole organization | No | Yes | Yes | | Review and publish a Member's personal Skill | No | Yes | Yes | | View detailed usage analytics | No | Yes | Yes | | See and manage private Projects | No | No | Yes | | Billing | No | No | Yes | | Upgrade, downgrade, or cancel | No | No | Yes | | Overage limits and usage notifications | No | No | Yes | ## Owners Owners have full control of the firm's workspace, including everything an Admin can do. **Billing and plan.** Only an Owner can see billing. On self-serve plans, only an Owner can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel. On Enterprise, Owners manage overage limits and set notifications for usage. **Full visibility.** Owners can see every Project created in the firm, including private ones. > [!NOTE] > > Because Owners can see private Projects and control billing, keep the number of Owners small. Give supervising attorneys who need to publish firm-wide Skills and review usage the Admin role instead. ## Admins Admins run the firm's shared knowledge and see how the team is using Parley. **Skills.** Admins publish Skills to the entire organization. They can also review a Member's personal Skill and publish it firm-wide. **Usage visibility.** Admins can view detailed usage analytics, which break down usage by matter, along with chat threads both inside and outside of Projects. This is how a firm finds out which work is drawing credits, who is getting the most out of Parley, and where a Skill would save the team repeated effort. ## Members Members create and work on Projects, run the Agent, produce drafts, forms, and exhibit packets, and build their own personal Skills. A personal Skill stays with the Member who built it until an Admin reviews and publishes it to the organization. This keeps the firm-wide Skill library curated. ## Choosing roles A workable default for most firms: * **Owner:** the managing attorney, and whoever signs off on spend. * **Admin:** supervising attorneys and whoever owns the firm's templates and standards. * **Member:** everyone else doing casework. Because Parley doesn't charge per seat, there's no cost reason to leave anyone out. See [Plans](/plans-and-billing/plans). # Claude and ChatGPT Source: https://docs.parley.so/ai-assistants/claude-and-chatgpt Use Parley from Claude or ChatGPT to check on your cases, read files and notes, and make updates when you ask. Connect Parley to Claude or ChatGPT and you can check on a case and act on it without switching apps. Ask about a Project, find a Contact, read the files on a Project, or add a Task, and the assistant does it in Parley, as you. > [card] [Add to Claude](https://claude.ai/customize/connectors?modal=add-custom-connector\&connectorName=Parley\&connectorUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.parley.so%2Fmcp) > > Opens Claude with Parley's details filled in for you to review. > [card] [Add to ChatGPT](https://chatgpt.com/plugins/plugin_asdk_app_6ac7e837b7f48191b046ce18da7144bf) > > Opens Parley's plugin page in ChatGPT, where you install it. When an app asks for Parley's server URL, use: ```text theme={null} https://api.parley.so/mcp ``` ## Before you start * **A Parley account.** You sign in with the same account you use at [app.parley.so](https://app.parley.so). Owners, Admins, and Members can all connect. * **Claude** works on every plan. On the Free plan you can add one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds Parley for the organization first. * **ChatGPT** installs Parley from the web at [chatgpt.com](https://chatgpt.com) or the desktop app. On Business, Enterprise, and Edu, your ChatGPT admin decides which plugins you can install. If you can't install Parley, ask them to allow it in **Workspace settings > Plugins**. ## Connect Claude **1. Open the connector form** Select [Add to Claude](https://claude.ai/customize/connectors?modal=add-custom-connector\&connectorName=Parley\&connectorUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.parley.so%2Fmcp). Or, in Claude, go to **Customize > Connectors**, select **+ Add**, then **Add custom connector**, and enter **Parley** as the name and the server URL above. **2. Review and add** Check that the URL is `https://api.parley.so/mcp`, then select **Continue**. Keep the default sign-in settings and select **Add**. **3. Sign in to Parley** Select **Connect**, sign in to Parley, choose your organization, and approve access. **4. Try it** In a chat, select **+**, open **Connectors**, and make sure Parley is on. Then ask something like "What's due this week across my Projects?" > [!NOTE] > > On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner adds Parley once for everyone. Go to **Organization settings > Connectors**, select **Add**, hover over **Custom**, select **Web**, and enter **Parley** and the server URL. Each person then finds Parley under **Customize > Connectors** and selects **Connect** to sign in with their own Parley account. ## Connect ChatGPT **1. Open Parley in ChatGPT** Select [Add to ChatGPT](https://chatgpt.com/plugins/plugin_asdk_app_6ac7e837b7f48191b046ce18da7144bf). Or, in ChatGPT, open **Plugins** and search for Parley. **2. Install and sign in** Select **Install plugin**. When ChatGPT asks, select **Connect**, sign in to Parley, choose your organization, and approve access. **3. Try it** Start a new conversation, type **@**, and select Parley. Then ask something like "Find a Contact and list the Projects they're on." > [!NOTE] > > If you added Parley to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server before, uninstall that copy from your personal plugins so you only have the official one. ## Claude Code and Codex If you use Claude Code or Codex, add Parley from your terminal and sign in when asked. ```sh Claude Code theme={null} claude mcp add --transport http --scope user parley https://api.parley.so/mcp ``` ```sh Codex theme={null} codex mcp add parley --url https://api.parley.so/mcp codex mcp login parley ``` In Claude Code, run `/mcp`, select **parley**, and sign in to Parley. In the Codex app, you can instead go to **Settings > MCP servers**, select **Add server**, choose **Streamable HTTP**, enter the server URL, and select **Authenticate**. Claude Code and Codex can also add new files to Parley. Claude and ChatGPT can't do that from a chat yet. ## What the assistant can do | Area | Look up | Change | | - | - | - | | Projects, Accounts, and Contacts | Search by name or email, list, and open a record with its links and fields | Create, update, and delete | | Tasks | List by status, assignee, due date, or the record they're about | Create, update, close, and delete | | Files | List the files on a Project, Account, or Contact, or in the Library, and read their text | Create folders, rename, move, and delete | | Notes | List and read | Create, update, and delete | | Activity | See record changes, notes and files added, synced emails and meetings, and USCIS case status updates | None | | Fields | List | Create, update, and delete (Owners and Admins only) | | Skills | List and read | Create, update, and delete | | Automations | List, read, and see past runs | Create, update, run now, and delete | | People | List the people at your firm | None | ## Permissions and access * **The assistant works as you.** It only sees the Projects you can see in Parley, and email content hidden by mailbox privacy settings stays hidden. * **Access is tied to one organization.** You choose it when you sign in, and the connection can't reach any other. To switch, disconnect Parley and connect again. * **You approve changes.** Claude and ChatGPT ask before Parley adds, changes, or deletes anything, unless you choose to always allow it. Deletions can't be undone. * **What the assistant reads leaves Parley.** Anything it looks up is sent to Claude or ChatGPT to answer your request, and is handled under your Claude or ChatGPT account's terms. For how Parley protects your data, see [Security and compliance](/security-and-compliance/overview). ## Disconnect * **Claude:** go to **Customize > Connectors**, select Parley, and remove it. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner removes it for everyone from **Organization settings > Connectors**. * **ChatGPT:** open [Parley in ChatGPT](https://chatgpt.com/plugins/plugin_asdk_app_6ac7e837b7f48191b046ce18da7144bf) and select **Uninstall plugin**. On Business, Enterprise, and Edu, your admin may manage Parley for the workspace instead. * **Claude Code:** run `claude mcp remove parley`. * **Codex:** run `codex mcp remove parley`. For help, see [Getting support](/help/getting-support). # Create an account Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/accounts/create-an-account https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /accounts Create an account (a client organization), optionally linked to projects. Send your API key as a Bearer token in the `Authorization` header of every request: ```bash theme={null} curl https://api.parley.so/v1/projects \ --header "Authorization: Bearer $PARLEY_API_KEY" ``` ## API keys An API key belongs to one user in one organization. Requests made with it act as that user and see only the records that user can see. Only members of your firm can use the API. Client users can't, and their requests return `403 FORBIDDEN`. To get an API key, [contact the Parley team](/help/getting-support). > [!WARNING] > > Treat an API key like a password. Keep it out of source control and client-side code, and store it in a secret manager or an environment variable. ## Authentication errors | Status | Code | Meaning | | - | - | - | | `401` | `UNAUTHORIZED` | The `Authorization` header is missing, or the key is invalid or revoked. | | `403` | `FORBIDDEN` | The key's user isn't allowed to use the API. | | `429` | `TOO_MANY_REQUESTS` | Too many attempts to validate a key. Wait briefly and retry. | # Create an automation Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/automations/create-an-automation https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /automations Create an automation: instructions Parley's assistant carries out whenever one of its triggers fires, as you, with nobody present. The automation is active as soon as it's created. Without a trigger it only runs when someone starts a run with POST /automations/{id}/runs. # Delete an automation Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/automations/delete-an-automation https://api.parley.so/openapi.json delete /automations/{id} Delete an automation with its triggers, its run history, and the conversations its runs produced, and cancel any run in progress. Other people's automations aren't listed. # Run an automation now Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/automations/run-an-automation-now https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /automations/{id}/runs Start a run of an automation now, without waiting for a trigger. A paused automation can be run too. Returns the run as soon as it's queued; follow its progress by listing the automation's runs. Returns 429 USAGE_LIMIT_REACHED when the organization has reached its limit of automation runs for a given period; don't retry until older runs fall outside that window. # Update an automation Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/automations/update-an-automation https://api.parley.so/openapi.json patch /automations/{id} Rename an automation, replace its instructions, add or remove triggers, pause or resume it, or move it to another project. Omitted fields are left unchanged. # Create a contact Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/contacts/create-a-contact https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /contacts Create a contact (a person), optionally belonging to an account and linked to projects. An email address can belong to only one contact, so a second contact with the same address returns 409 EMAIL_TAKEN. # Delete a contact Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/contacts/delete-a-contact https://api.parley.so/openapi.json delete /contacts/{id} Permanently delete a contact (person) along with its notes, files, and tasks. Omitted fields are left unchanged. # Errors Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/errors Status codes and the error response shape. Parley uses standard HTTP status codes. Every error response has the same JSON body: ```json theme={null} { "error": { "code": "NOT_FOUND", "message": "Project not found.", "details": {} } } ``` | Field | Description | | - | - | | `code` | Machine-readable error code. Branch on this, not on `message`. | | `message` | Human-readable description of the error. | | `details` | Optional structured context, such as the validation issues for a request. | ## Status codes | Status | Code | Meaning | | - | - | - | | `400` | `BAD_REQUEST` | The request is malformed or failed validation. See `details`. | | `401` | `UNAUTHORIZED` | The API key is missing or invalid. See [Authentication](/api-reference/authentication). | | `403` | `FORBIDDEN` | The key's user can't perform this action. | | `404` | `NOT_FOUND` | The resource doesn't exist, or the key's user can't see it. | | `409` | `CONFLICT` | The request conflicts with the resource's current state. | | `429` | `TOO_MANY_REQUESTS` | Too many requests. Wait briefly and retry. | | `5xx` | | Something went wrong on Parley's side. Retry with backoff. | # Create a field Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/fields/create-a-field https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /fields Define a custom field for projects, accounts, contacts, or tasks. Set its values through the fields of that record type's create and update operations, keyed by field name or ID. Parley doesn't fill task fields, so their automation is off. Requires the owner or admin role. # Delete a field Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/fields/delete-a-field https://api.parley.so/openapi.json delete /fields/{id} Permanently delete a custom field and erase its value from every record. This cannot be undone. System fields can't be deleted. Field values live on the records, in their fields, keyed by field name. # Update a field Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/fields/update-a-field https://api.parley.so/openapi.json patch /fields/{id} Rename a custom field, change its automation, or add, rename, and remove single_select options. Omitted properties are left unchanged, and the type can't change. System fields can't be updated. Requires the owner or admin role. # Add a file Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/files/add-a-file https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /files Add an uploaded file to a project, account, contact, intake, or the Library: pass exactly one of projectId, accountId, contactId, intakeId, or library. Create the upload with POST /uploads and PUT the file's bytes to its url first. Parley then extracts the file's text in the background, and the file can be read once its status is ready. Adding the same upload again returns the same file; adding it anywhere else returns 409 UPLOAD_ALREADY_ADDED. # Create a folder Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/files/create-a-folder https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /folders Create a folder in a project, account, contact, intake, or the Library, at the top level or inside another folder: pass exactly one of projectId, accountId, contactId, intakeId, or library. If a folder with that name is already there, a number is appended, as in "Evidence (2)". The folder is a file of type folder, read and changed at /files/{id}. # Create an upload Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/files/create-an-upload https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /uploads Start uploading a file. PUT the file's bytes to the returned url in one request before it expires (for example, curl -X PUT --upload-file ./letter.pdf "$URL"). Then pass the upload's id as uploadId to POST /files to add the file to a location, or to POST /skills or PATCH /skills/{slug} for a skill. # Delete a file Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/files/delete-a-file https://api.parley.so/openapi.json delete /files/{id} Delete a file, or a folder along with everything in it. This cannot be undone. # Get a file Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/files/get-a-file https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /files/{id} Get a file or folder by ID. A file can be read once its status is ready. # Get a file download URL Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/files/get-a-file-download-url https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /files/{id}/download Get a short-lived URL that downloads the original file as it was uploaded. Returns 409 FILE_NOT_READY when Parley doesn't have the file's contents yet. # List files Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/files/list-files https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /files List the files and folders of one location, newest first by default: pass exactly one of projectId, accountId, contactId, intakeId, or library=true. Starts at the location's top level: pass folderId to list inside a folder, and recursive=true to include everything below. Returns 400 INVALID_REFERENCE when the location or folder doesn't exist or you can't see it. # Read a file Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/files/read-a-file https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /files/{id}/text Read the text Parley extracted from a file, one window at a time. Scanned pages are OCRed, and paged documents mark each page with . When nextOffset is not null there is more text: pass it back as offset to keep reading. Returns 409 FILE_NOT_READY until the text has been extracted, or if it could not be extracted. # Update a file Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/files/update-a-file https://api.parley.so/openapi.json patch /files/{id} Rename a file or folder, or move it to another folder in the same location. Omitted fields are left unchanged. Returns 409 NAME_TAKEN if the destination already has an item with that name. # Introduction Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/introduction Read and manage your Parley workspace over an API. ## Base URL ``` https://api.parley.so/v1 ``` Requests and responses use JSON. Every request needs an API key. See [Authentication](/api-reference/authentication). ## Your first request Check your key by fetching the user it belongs to: ```bash theme={null} curl https://api.parley.so/v1/me \ --header "Authorization: Bearer $PARLEY_API_KEY" ``` # Create a note Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/notes/create-a-note https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /notes Create a markdown note on a project, account, or contact: pass exactly one of projectId, accountId, or contactId. List endpoints return one page of results with a cursor for the next page: ```json theme={null} { "data": [{ "id": "..." }], "nextCursor": "eyJpZCI6..." } ``` | Parameter | Description | | - | - | | `limit` | Maximum number of items to return, from 1 to 250. Defaults to 50. | | `cursor` | The `nextCursor` from the previous page. Omit it for the first page. | To fetch the next page, send the same request again with `cursor` set to the previous response's `nextCursor`. Keep the other filters and the sort the same. When `nextCursor` is `null`, you've reached the last page. ```bash theme={null} curl "https://api.parley.so/v1/projects?limit=100&cursor=$NEXT_CURSOR" \ --header "Authorization: Bearer $PARLEY_API_KEY" ``` Cursors are opaque. Visible to everyone in the organization unless access is restricted to specific members. # Delete a project Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/projects/delete-a-project https://api.parley.so/openapi.json delete /projects/{id} Permanently delete a project (matter or case) along with its files, notes, outputs, tables, and tasks. This cannot be undone. # Get a project Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/projects/get-a-project https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /projects/{id} Get a single project (matter or case) by ID. # List projects Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/projects/list-projects https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /projects List the projects (matters or cases) the caller can see, newest first by default. Filter by name, linked account or contact, and when projects were created or updated. # Update a project Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/projects/update-a-project https://api.parley.so/openapi.json patch /projects/{id} Rename a project (matter or case), change its linked accounts and contacts, or set its custom field values. Omitted fields are left unchanged. # Delete a session Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/sessions/delete-a-session https://api.parley.so/openapi.json delete /sessions/{id} Delete a session, its messages, and anything it drafted outside a project, and stop the assistant if it's working. What it saved to a project stays. This cannot be undone. # Get a session Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/sessions/get-a-session https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /sessions/{id} Get one of your sessions by ID, with whether the assistant is working and how its last run ended. Read the conversation with GET /sessions/{id}/messages. # List a session's messages Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/sessions/list-a-sessions-messages https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /sessions/{id}/messages List the messages in a session, newest first by default: what was sent to the assistant and its replies. A message sent while the assistant is working shows up once the assistant reads it. For the latest reply, pass role=assistant and limit=1; pass sort=createdAt to read the conversation from the start. # List sessions Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/sessions/list-sessions https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /sessions List your sessions with Parley's assistant, most recently active first by default, from every place you work with it: the web app, Word, Outlook, automation runs, and the API. Other people's sessions aren't listed. # Rename a session Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/sessions/rename-a-session https://api.parley.so/openapi.json patch /sessions/{id} Rename a session. Parley stops writing titles for a session once someone names it. # Send a message Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/sessions/send-a-message https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /sessions/{id}/messages Send a message to a session. An idle assistant starts on it right away; a working one reads it at its next step, so you can steer it mid-task. Returns the session as soon as the message is queued, with status working; get the session until its status is idle, then read the reply with GET /sessions/{id}/messages. Sessions started in Word or Outlook can only be continued there. Returns 409 SESSION_BUSY while the session is being summarized or changed, and 429 USAGE_LIMIT_REACHED when the organization has used its Parley AI allowance for the billing period. # Start a session Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/sessions/start-a-session https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /sessions Start a session with Parley's assistant by sending its first message. The assistant works in the background, as you, with the same tools and access it has in the web app, and the session shows up in your Parley chat history. Returns the session as soon as the message is queued, with status working; get the session until its status is idle, then read the reply with GET /sessions/{id}/messages. Returns 429 USAGE_LIMIT_REACHED when the organization has used its Parley AI allowance for the billing period. # Stop a session Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/sessions/stop-a-session https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /sessions/{id}/stop Stop the assistant and any subagents it started, if they are working. What it has already finished is kept, and messages it hasn't read yet are dropped. Returns the session, which is usually idle by then; if it is still working, get it again in a few seconds. Send a message to continue. # Create a skill Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/skills/create-a-skill https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /skills Create a skill from its SKILL.md (content) or from an upload of the whole skill with its bundled documents (uploadId). A new skill is on as soon as it's created. Returns 409 SLUG_TAKEN if the slug belongs to another skill, including one you can't see, and 400 RESERVED_SLUG for a built-in skill's slug. Returns 400 INVALID_REFERENCE when uploadId isn't an upload or nothing was uploaded to it, and 400 INVALID_SKILL when the SKILL.md or archive can't be read. # Delete a skill Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/skills/delete-a-skill https://api.parley.so/openapi.json delete /skills/{slug} Delete a skill and its bundled documents. This cannot be undone; to stop Parley using a skill, turn it off instead by setting enabled to false. # Get a skill Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/skills/get-a-skill https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /skills/{slug} Get a skill by slug, including its SKILL.md and the paths of its bundled documents. # Get a skill download URL Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/skills/get-a-skill-download-url https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /skills/{slug}/download Get a short-lived URL that downloads the whole skill, its SKILL.md and bundled documents, as a .skill archive. # List skills Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/skills/list-skills https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /skills List the organization's skills and your personal ones, newest first by default. Parley's built-in skills aren't listed. # Update a skill Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/skills/update-a-skill https://api.parley.so/openapi.json patch /skills/{slug} Replace a skill's SKILL.md (content) or everything it holds (uploadId), change when it's used, or turn it on or off. Omitted fields are left unchanged. A skill's slug and scope can't change. Returns 400 INVALID_REFERENCE when uploadId isn't an upload or nothing was uploaded to it, and 400 INVALID_SKILL when the SKILL.md or archive can't be read. # Delete a sync Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/syncs/delete-a-sync https://api.parley.so/openapi.json delete /syncs/{id} Stop syncing a folder. The files it already synced stay in Parley as ordinary files, which can then be changed. Nothing changes at the provider. # List syncs Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/syncs/list-syncs https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /syncs List the folders synced into a project's, account's, contact's, or intake's files, or the Library, newest first by default: pass exactly one of projectId, accountId, contactId, intakeId, or library=true. Returns 400 INVALID_REFERENCE when the location doesn't exist or you can't see it. # Run a sync now Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/syncs/run-a-sync-now https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /syncs/{id}/run Bring a synced folder up to date now instead of waiting for its next run. Returns the sync as soon as the run is queued. Returns 409 SYNC_NOT_RUNNABLE when the sync can't run, and details.reason says why. # Sync a folder Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/syncs/sync-a-folder https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /syncs Sync a folder from Google Drive, Microsoft (OneDrive or SharePoint), Dropbox, Box, or Egnyte into a project's, account's, contact's, or intake's files, or the Library: pass exactly one of projectId, accountId, contactId, intakeId, or library, and folderId to place it inside a folder there. The sync uses your own connection to the provider, and Parley keeps the folder's files up to date in the background; they can't be changed in Parley. You sync a folder into a location once, while other people can sync the same folder there, each seeing what their own account can open: syncing it again into the same folder returns your existing sync, and into another folder of the location returns 409 FOLDER_ALREADY_SYNCED. Returns 409 CONNECTION_REQUIRED when you haven't connected the provider or must reconnect it, 400 INVALID_REFERENCE when the folder doesn't exist at the provider, isn't a folder, or your connection can't open it, and 429 TOO_MANY_REQUESTS when Egnyte's daily limit for your account is used up, until it resets at midnight UTC. # Create a task Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/tasks/create-a-task https://api.parley.so/openapi.json post /tasks Create a task, optionally about one project, account, or contact, with a status (todo unless given), assignee, due date, and description. Pass reminder to have Parley remind the caller about it. # Delete a task Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/tasks/delete-a-task https://api.parley.so/openapi.json delete /tasks/{id} Permanently delete a task, along with everyone's reminders for it. A task on a project is visible to the people who can see that project; any other task is visible to everyone in the organization. Filter by status, assignee, due date, the record a task is about, title, and when tasks were created or updated. Each task includes the caller's own reminder for it. # Update a task Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/tasks/update-a-task https://api.parley.so/openapi.json patch /tasks/{id} Rename a task, change its status, assignee, due date, description, or the record it's about, set its field values, or set or remove the caller's reminder for it. Omitted properties are left unchanged. Anyone who can see a task can set their own reminder on it. # Get a user Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/users/get-a-user https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /users/{id} Get a person in your organization by user ID. # Get the current user Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/users/get-the-current-user https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /me Get the user you're acting as, the owner of the API key or the user who signed in, with their role and organization. # List users Source: https://docs.parley.so/api-reference/users/list-users https://api.parley.so/openapi.json get /users List the people in your organization, newest first by default. A user's id is what a project's access.memberIds, a task's assigneeId, and a field of type user take. # Document management Source: https://docs.parley.so/connectors/document-management Sync Projects with Google Drive, SharePoint, Dropbox, Clio, or Box so evidence lands in Parley on its own. If your firm's files already live somewhere else, connect that system and Parley pulls from it. Evidence added to your drive shows up in the matter without anyone re-uploading it. ## Supported systems * Google Drive * Microsoft OneDrive and SharePoint * Dropbox * Box * Clio Connect them from **Settings → Connectors**. See [Connectors](/connectors/overview) for how connecting works. ## Syncing a folder to a Project **1. Connect the system** In **Settings → Connectors**, connect the account you want Parley to read from. **2. Start a sync from the Project** Open the Project's **Files** tab and select **Sync**, then choose the system. **3. Pick a top-level folder** Choose the folder that holds the matter's files, such as a client intake folder. For Microsoft, pick the drive first. For Clio, pick the matter. **4. Let Parley pull it in** Everything in the folder comes across, subfolders included, with your structure preserved so files sit where your team expects them. From then on, new files added to that folder in your drive sync into the Parley Project automatically. The case stays current without a re-upload step. ## Uploading directly Syncing is optional. You can also drag files or zip folders straight into a Project, and your folder structure is preserved on upload the same way. Inside a Project you can search for any document or folder from the toolbar, and drag and drop files between locations in both the Library and Project file browsers. ## Keeping evidence organized A **Document-Naming** [Skill](/memory-and-skills/skills) sets the rules for how evidence should be named and filed. Once it's in place, Parley can rename incoming documents and reorganize them into folders and subfolders to match your firm's convention. That's useful when files are arriving from a client's drive rather than being named by your team. ## Sending work back out Syncing only brings files into Parley. To share work you've done in Parley, download it as a Word file, or export it to Google Docs if you've connected Google Drive. # Email and calendar Source: https://docs.parley.so/connectors/email-and-calendar Connect your inbox once and Parley keeps your cases and correspondence in sync, including meeting transcripts. Connect your Gmail or Outlook inbox and Parley keeps your cases and your email in sync on its own. No dropping messages into the chat, no copying case context into a Project. ## What connecting does * **Creates and updates records.** New Contacts and Accounts are created from your correspondence, and existing records update based on what's in the conversation. * **Gives you a readable thread view.** Catch up on a case without digging through your inbox. * **Drafts your replies.** Every email that needs a reply gets a draft written in your tone, ready for you to review and send. * **Makes correspondence available to the Agent.** Your client emails can inform a brief, or you can ask for a quick follow-up drafted from the history. Because the Agent can read across it, the inbox becomes something you can ask questions of: > "Which of my cases are stalling, and who should I follow up with?" > "What deadlines are approaching that are urgent?" > "Which of my consultations from this week should I take on as cases?" ## Auto-reply drafting Once your inbox is connected, Parley reads incoming messages and writes a reply for each one that needs a response. The draft is waiting when you open the thread, so your part is reviewing and sending rather than starting from a blank message. Each draft is built from the case behind the thread, not just the email in front of it: * **The conversation history**, so the reply picks up where the last exchange left off. * **The matter's records**, including the Project, Account, and Contact tied to the sender and the current values of their fields. * **Your tone**, so the reply reads the way you would have written it. A client asking whether their petition has been filed gets a reply grounded in the filing status on their Project, not a generic "we'll check and get back to you." > [!NOTE] > > Parley doesn't send anything on its own. Every drafted reply waits for you to review, edit, and send it. ## Setting it up Go to **Settings → Email & Calendar** and connect your inbox. You can also get there from **Settings → Connectors** by selecting **Set up** next to Gmail and Google Calendar or Outlook and Calendar. You'll choose a visibility level at the same time: | Visibility | What your team sees | | - | - | | **Full Access** | Shared context across client correspondence, and teammates can read the messages | | **Metadata Only** | Who emailed and when, without the contents of the message | Pick the one that matches how your firm handles client communication. Metadata Only still lets Parley keep records and dates current for you while keeping the messages themselves private. ## Meeting Bot Parley can send a notetaker to your calls. Turn on **Record Meetings** under **Settings → Email & Calendar**, and for any synced meeting Parley will: * Join the call and transcribe it * Attach the full transcript to the relevant Contact, Account, or the Project's Activity tab * Let you and your team read back exactly what was said, whether or not you were on the call After a call, open the meeting from the Contact's Activity feed to read the transcript, or ask: > "What do we need to follow up with \[Client Name] on after yesterday's meeting?" > [!NOTE] > > Your firm chooses which meetings get recorded. Recording is off until you turn it on, and you stay in control of which calls the notetaker joins. ## How this feeds case management Correspondence and transcripts count as context for [self-driving fields](/self-driving/fields). A date confirmed over email or a status mentioned on a call can update the record the same way a document in the Project would, so the case management keeps up with conversations, not just filings. # Connectors Source: https://docs.parley.so/connectors/overview Connect the tools your firm already uses so Parley can pull in documents, keep correspondence in sync, and work in your other apps. A connector links Parley to another app your firm uses. Depending on the app, Parley imports and syncs your documents, keeps email and meetings in sync with your cases, or lets the Parley Agent look things up and take action there for you. > [card] [Open Connectors](https://app.parley.so/settings/integrations) > > Go to **Settings → Connectors** in Parley to see every available app and connect the ones you use. ## Available connectors | Connector | What Parley does with it | | - | - | | [Google Drive](/connectors/document-management) | Imports and syncs documents into Projects. Exports drafts to Google Docs. | | [Microsoft](/connectors/document-management) | Imports and syncs documents from OneDrive and SharePoint. | | [Dropbox](/connectors/document-management) | Imports and syncs documents. The Agent can also search your Dropbox. | | [Box](/connectors/document-management) | Imports and syncs documents. The Agent can also search your Box. | | [Clio](/connectors/document-management) | Syncs a Clio matter's documents into a Project. | | [Gmail and Google Calendar](/connectors/email-and-calendar) | Syncs email and meetings with your cases, and drafts replies. | | [Outlook and Calendar](/connectors/email-and-calendar) | Syncs email and meetings with your cases, and drafts replies. | | [Slack](/connectors/slack) | The Agent searches your conversations and posts messages for you. | | Granola | The Agent searches your meeting notes and transcripts. | | Fathom | The Agent searches your recordings, transcripts, and summaries. | | Calendly | The Agent checks your availability and manages your bookings. | ## Connecting an app **1. Open Connectors** In Parley, go to **Settings → Connectors**. **2. Connect the app** Find the app and select **Connect**. For email and calendar, select **Set up** instead, which takes you to **Settings → Email & Calendar**. **3. Sign in and approve access** A window opens for the app. Sign in, review what Parley is asking for, and approve it. **4. You're connected** The app moves to your **Connected** list. Each person at your firm connects their own accounts. Connecting yours doesn't give your teammates access to your files or messages. > [!NOTE] > > Some firms require an IT admin to approve new apps in Google, Microsoft, or Slack. If the sign-in window asks you to request approval, send the request, then connect again once it's approved. ## Using connectors with the Parley Agent Connectors marked with a speech bubble on the Connectors page connect to the Parley Agent. Once connected, they're turned on for every new chat, and the Agent decides when to use them. To choose which connectors a chat can use, select **+** in the message box and open **Connectors**. Turn individual apps off, or select **Turn all off**. [Routines](/routines/overview) keep their own list of connectors, so connecting a new app doesn't change what your existing routines can do. ## Reconnecting and disconnecting If Parley loses access to an app, for example after a password change, the app shows **Reconnect** on the Connectors page and in a chat's **Connectors** menu. Select it and sign in again. To disconnect an app, go to **Settings → Connectors**, select **Manage** next to it, then **Disconnect**. Parley loses access right away, and anything that relies on the app, like a folder sync, stops until you connect again. For how Parley protects the data it reads from your apps, see [Security and compliance](/security-and-compliance/overview). # Slack Source: https://docs.parley.so/connectors/slack Let Parley search your Slack conversations and post updates for you, so what your team discusses in Slack becomes part of the case. Not every case lives in email and documents. Decisions, client updates, and deadlines get discussed in Slack too, and finding them again means scrolling back through channels and threads. Connect Slack and Parley finds those conversations for you, uses them in its work, and posts updates back to your team. > [card] [Connect Slack](https://app.parley.so/settings/integrations) > > Open **Settings → Connectors** in Parley and connect your Slack account. ![A Parley chat summarizing the latest posts in a Slack channel](https://mintcdn.com/parley/9Yf5cLZRrrbFSeVT/images/slack/ask-parley-about-slack.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=9Yf5cLZRrrbFSeVT\&q=85\&s=65896d9101a33d75cc1d037febe71aa1) ## What you can do * **Find what was said.** Ask about a decision, a client update, or a deadline, and Parley searches your channels, direct messages, and shared files for the answer. * **Catch up on a thread.** Point Parley at a conversation and get a summary of where things landed and what's still open. * **Bring Slack into the case.** Parley uses what it finds in Slack alongside a Project's documents and correspondence, for example when drafting a status update or checking a deadline. * **Post updates for you.** Ask Parley to send a message to a channel or a colleague, or to write up a canvas, and it does so as you. For example, ask Parley: > "What did we tell the client about the filing date in #immigration-team last week?" > "Summarize the thread about the Acme engagement letter and list anything still unresolved." > "Post today's upcoming deadlines to #case-updates." ## Connecting Slack **1. Open Connectors** In Parley, go to **Settings → Connectors**. **2. Connect Slack** Find **Slack** and select **Connect**. A Slack window opens. ![The Slack connector with its Connect button](https://mintcdn.com/parley/9Yf5cLZRrrbFSeVT/images/slack/connect-slack.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=9Yf5cLZRrrbFSeVT\&q=85\&s=493afdd0df45ef5e7aa90477576f8e8d) **3. Choose your workspace and allow access** If you belong to more than one Slack workspace, pick the right one in the top-right corner of the window. Review what Parley is asking for (explained [below](#what-parley-can-see-and-do-in-slack)) and select **Allow**. ![Slack's screen asking you to allow Parley to access your workspace](https://mintcdn.com/parley/9Yf5cLZRrrbFSeVT/images/slack/approve-access.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=9Yf5cLZRrrbFSeVT\&q=85\&s=7d2694f81d6450f5917975902f064dae) **4. You're connected** The window closes, Parley confirms **Connected to Slack**, and Slack moves to your **Connected** list. ![Slack listed under Connected on the Connectors page](https://mintcdn.com/parley/9Yf5cLZRrrbFSeVT/images/slack/slack-connected.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=9Yf5cLZRrrbFSeVT\&q=85\&s=60cba3d3c48679a3adccb56d93b35b23) > [!NOTE] > > Some firms require a Slack admin to approve new apps. If Slack shows **Request to install** instead of **Allow**, send the request. Once your admin approves it, come back to **Settings → Connectors** and connect again. Each person at your firm connects their own Slack account, and Parley uses it only for that person's chats and routines. ## Using Slack in Parley Once you're connected, Slack is turned on for every new chat. Ask your question the way you'd ask a colleague and Parley decides when to look in Slack. Naming a channel or a person helps it look in the right place. To leave Slack out of a chat, select **+** in the message box, open **Connectors**, and turn Slack off. [Routines](/routines/overview) can use Slack too. Turn it on in a routine's connectors and a scheduled routine can, for example, post a weekly matter summary to a channel. ## What Parley can see and do in Slack When you connect, Slack lists what Parley is asking to do. In plain terms: | Parley can | What that means | | - | - | | Search and read messages | Messages in public channels, and in the private channels, direct messages, and group messages you're part of. | | Read files, canvases, and lists | Files shared in those conversations, and canvases and lists you can open. | | See the people in your workspace | Names, profile details, and email addresses, so Parley knows who said what and can find the right person. | | See reactions and emoji | So it can tell when someone acknowledged or approved a message with a reaction. | | Send messages as you | Messages appear under your name, marked **Sent using Parley**, in conversations you can already post to. | | Create and edit canvases as you | For example, writing up a meeting summary or a case checklist as a Slack canvas. | Parley works with your access, so it never sees more than you can. It can't read private channels or direct messages you aren't part of, and it can't change your workspace's settings. Anything Parley posts goes out under your name and is marked **Sent using Parley**, so your team can tell. If you'd like to review a message before it's sent, ask Parley to draft it in the chat first. ## Your data * **Parley doesn't copy your Slack workspace.** It looks up messages when it needs them for a question or task, rather than importing your Slack history. * **What Parley reads stays with the chat.** Messages Parley used to answer you are saved in that chat's history, and are protected like the rest of your firm's data in Parley. * **Your content isn't used to train AI models** for other customers. That includes your Slack messages. * **Slack's own retention settings still apply** to your messages in Slack. For what we collect, how we use it, and how long we keep it, see our [Privacy Policy](https://www.parley.so/privacy-policy) and [Security and compliance](/security-and-compliance/overview). ## Disconnecting Slack Go to **Settings → Connectors**, select **Manage** next to Slack, then **Disconnect**. Parley loses access to your Slack account right away. A Slack admin can also remove Parley from your workspace at any time in Slack's app management settings. ## Getting help Email [founders@parley.so](mailto:founders@parley.so) or use the chat in the bottom right-hand corner of Parley. See [Getting support](/help/getting-support) for more ways to reach us. # The Parley model Source: https://docs.parley.so/get-started/parley-model The three records Parley organizes around, and the four ideas behind how the system works. Once you're set up, a little structure goes a long way. This page covers what Parley stores and how it thinks, so you know where things belong and what to expect from the Agent. ## The model Parley organizes around three records. Records are linked to one another so details about the companies and people related to a matter can be tracked, reported on, and leveraged across cases. | Record | What it holds | | - | - | | **Project** | A matter. Client evidence, drafts, chat threads, and every work product Parley generates for it. A Project may also relate to an internal initiative or client work across multiple matters. Projects are used when dense and detailed document processing is required to inform complex work. | | **Account** | A company. This may be your corporate client or the employer of your client. Store prior filings, organize corporate correspondence, engagement letters, or reusable exhibits, to leverage across matters. | | **Contact** | A person. This may be a client or beneficiary, a witness, recommender, signatory, or attorney, or a family member participating in a matter. A Contact may optionally be associated with an Account, and may be leveraged across matters. | ## How the system thinks Four key ideas to help get the most out of Parley. ### You can find anything by chatting Parley searches across every email, file, note, and field on every project, account, or contact. Information does not have to become a structured field to be retrievable. If it lives in a document or a note somewhere on the case, ask for it directly. ### A field is for what you want at a glance Create a field when you want quick visual access to something and it applies consistently across most cases, contacts, or accounts. Owners and Admins can tell the Agent what fields to create, or edit them directly in Settings. If you just want to jot something down, ask Parley to save it as a note. ### The best fields are self-driving Parley reads the documents, notes, and emails linked to a project, account, or contact and keeps those fields current on its own. Your team does the casework in Parley, and the case management takes care of itself. ### The deepest value is the system Parley gets most valuable when your firm writes down how it already works. How you build each petition type, how you organize evidence, how you fill forms. Ask Parley to codify it once in a Skill and every work product after comes together the same way. ## Where to go next > [card] [Projects](/projects/overview) > > How a matter is organized, and how to run your first one end to end. > [card] [Objects](/self-driving/objects) > > How Projects, Accounts, and Contacts relate, and what belongs on each. > [card] [Skills](/memory-and-skills/skills) > > Codify how your firm works into reusable instructions the whole team can run. > [card] [Case management](/self-driving/overview) > > How Parley keeps your case fields current from the work you're already doing. # Quickstart Source: https://docs.parley.so/get-started/quickstart Connect your email, bring your data over, and create your first Skills. Ask it to draft a brief, complete a form, assemble an exhibit packet, or research a legal question, and it produces work product from your team's own materials. As you work, the case management underneath keeps itself current. ## Start here **1. Connect your email and calendar** Go to **Settings → Email & Calendar** and continue with Google or Microsoft authentication. Parley links your emails and calendar to your matters, drafts your replies, and takes notes in your meetings. > [card] Emails organized by matter > > Emails sort themselves into the right matter, so Parley can draft and research from your full client history. > [card] Auto drafted emails in your inbox > > Every email that needs a reply gets a draft written in your tone, ready for you to review and send. > [card] Meeting recordings > > A notetaker joins your external meetings to record, transcribe, and capture the highlights automatically. Only you can see the email content Parley syncs, unless you choose to share it with your team. See [Email and calendar](/connectors/email-and-calendar) for the visibility options. **2. Import your data** Bring your firm's case history. Your spreadsheet full of dates you need to track. Your case management system's companies, contacts, tasks, matters, and notes. You can add all of it to Parley directly through the Agent. Parley has an **import-data Skill** that handles migrations agentically. It reads what you give it, creates the records, and builds custom fields on your behalf to match how your team already works. This is the path off your existing case management system. See [Parley Agent](/parley-agent/importing-data) for the detail. **3. Create Skills** Skills are reusable prompts and examples that apply to your work in Parley. Start with your firm: your role, your practice area, and uploaded letterhead and formatting examples for the Parley Agent to leverage. That single Skill improves everything Parley produces afterward. Then focus on key work products: particular filings, cover letters, contract playbooks, or court filing procedures. Upload a sample and Parley writes the Skill for you, then applies it automatically to your work. See [Skills](/memory-and-skills/skills). > [!TIP] > > Open Parley and type **onboard me** and Parley will walk you through this live. ## Next Once you're set up, read [The Parley model](/get-started/parley-model) for the three records Parley organizes around and the four ideas behind how the system works. ## Access and support Sign in at [app.parley.so](https://app.parley.so). See [Permissions](/admin/permissions). # Practice areas Source: https://docs.parley.so/memory-and-skills/practice-areas The Skill library Parley ships with, organized by practice area. Parley supports any legal practitioner. Skills are the reusable instructions behind the work Parley produces, and they are configurable. Hand Parley a sample document and it writes the Skill for you. Parley ships with a large library out of the box so your team has something to run from day one. Open a Project and select a Skill from **Run Skill**, or describe the task in chat and Parley applies the matching Skill on its own. Each one works from the files already in the Project. ## Immigration ### Forms and filing support Parley fills the full set of USCIS and EOIR forms, updated daily as new editions are published. The library above is a starting point, not a limit. Upload a sample of the document you produce and Parley writes the Skill for it, then applies it to your work from then on. See [Skills](/memory-and-skills/skills), or reach the team at [founders@parley.so](mailto:founders@parley.so). # Overview Source: https://docs.parley.so/memory-and-skills/skills Codify how your firm works into reusable instructions the whole team can run. Skills are reusable instructions and workflows that teach Parley how your firm wants recurring work performed. A Skill can hold drafting standards, procedural steps, templates, examples, and reference materials, so Parley repeats a firm-approved process instead of starting from generic instructions each time. ## Two ways to use a Skill **On demand.** Open a Project and select the Skill from **Run Skill**. This suits defined workflows: preparing a case strategy snapshot, completing forms, or assembling an exhibit packet. On-demand Skills are used like a saved prompt. **Automatically.** Describe the task in chat and Parley recognizes when a Skill applies, then follows its instructions without being asked. Asking for a draft support letter can pull in your firm's Skill for that document. Automatic Skills are used like a firm playbook. ## Creating and revising a Skill Ask the Agent conversationally: > "Create a reusable Skill for drafting our responses to agency information requests." > > "Turn this checklist and sample brief into a Skill." > > "Update our email Skill to include this new template." Parley structures the instructions and reference materials for your review. Upload a sample and it reads the structure, the tone, and the conventions out of the document rather than making you describe them. Skills live under **Knowledge → Skills**. ## Skills worth building first ### Firm information Attorney details, bar numbers, office addresses, letterhead, and signatories, reused across every form and cover letter. This is the one to build first. ### One per matter type How your firm builds each recurring matter type. The structure and formatting, the argument order, the evidence each section needs. ### Drafting samples Upload samples of the letters and briefs your firm sends. A Skill can hold multiple folders and subfolders, and Parley searches across them to select the best sample for the situation in front of it. ### Document naming Instructions for how evidence should be named and organized. Parley can rename documents and reorganize them into folders and subfolders to match. ## Organization and personal Skills Skills can be maintained at the organization level for firm-wide use, or at the personal level for one person's workflow. Every team member can build their own personal Skills. An Admin can review a Member's personal Skill and publish it to the whole organization, which is how the team can share best practices with one another. This review step keeps the firm-wide library curated rather than filling up with everyone's individual prompts and samples. See [Permissions](/admin/permissions). ## Getting help building Skills We'd love to build your first Skills with you. Growth and Enterprise plans include custom Skill development with our team. Parley includes an **import-data Skill** for spreadsheet and legacy-system migrations. You do not need to clean your export, design a Parley-ready schema, or split it into perfect CSVs before giving it to the Agent. Start with the source you have: a CSV, TSV, Excel workbook, or provider export. Parley Agent inspects the complete source, identifies the entities and relationships it contains, finds inconsistent values and duplicate candidates, and proposes how the data should map into Parley. The Agent can handle the preparation work that happens before the underlying importer runs, including: * Profiling every relevant sheet and column * Normalizing headers, names, dates, labels, and field values * Separating combined source data into Accounts, Contacts, Projects, and notes * Identifying natural matching keys and duplicate candidates * Comparing the source against records already in Parley * Proposing new resource fields where the source contains structured data Parley does not yet represent * Resolving or flagging Account, Contact, and Project relationships * Producing the prepared CSVs used by the bulk loader * Maintaining mapping, routing, and progress ledgers for recovery and reconciliation > [!NOTE] > > The distinction is between the workflow and the loader. The import-data Skill accepts the source export as it exists and prepares it collaboratively. The underlying CLI importer is intentionally strict: it loads the reviewed, normalized CSVs produced during that workflow. You do not need to prepare those CSVs yourself. ## What can be migrated The migration workflow supports: * **Accounts** for companies, employers, petitioners, agencies, and other organizations * **Contacts** for clients, beneficiaries, employees, signatories, attorneys, and other individuals * **Projects** for matters, cases, or other units of work * **Resource fields** on Accounts, Contacts, and Projects * **Links** between Projects and their Accounts and Contacts * **Shared notes** owned by an Account, Contact, or Project If a legacy export contains data that does not map directly to a supported Parley record, the Agent identifies it rather than silently discarding it. You can decide whether to omit it, preserve it in a file or note, or map it to a supported concept where appropriate. ## Review the migration plan Before writing anything, Parley Agent presents a complete mapping and migration plan. The review covers: * The source files, sheets, and rows in scope * How every source column will be handled * Which records appear to match existing Parley data * Which records are expected to be created or updated * Proposed resource fields and value transformations * Duplicate candidates and conflicting records * Unresolved or ambiguous relationships * Data that will be skipped or preserved outside structured fields Nothing is created, updated, or linked until you approve the scope and mapping. This checkpoint prevents a guessed mapping from being repeated across an entire data set. ## Check a representative sample For a migration of more than about 20 records, Parley Agent proposes a representative sample of approximately five records before the full run. The sample should include more than the first few rows: it can cover common records, edge cases, existing matches, new records, and relationship examples. Review the resulting Accounts, Contacts, Projects, fields, and links. Once the sample reflects the intended structure, approve the full import. ## Run the import Parley Agent converts the approved mapping into prepared CSVs and loads each primary resource through one long-lived import process. Accounts are normally loaded before Contacts, and Accounts and Contacts before Projects, so relationships can resolve against records that already exist. Each row follows a match-or-create model. Existing records can be matched and updated with differing nonblank values; new records are created. Blank cells are skipped rather than treated as instructions to erase existing data. Before the full write, the Agent runs a dry run against live Parley data. The dry run checks mappings, field types, matching keys, duplicate or ambiguous matches, and unresolved links without creating or changing records. ## Recover safely after an interruption Every import maintains an append-only progress log. If a run is interrupted or some rows fail, Parley Agent reconciles the log against the records in Parley and resumes only the rows that still require work. Do not start over with an unrelated batch. The approved mapping, row identities, and progress log are what make recovery deterministic and prevent successful rows from being duplicated. ## Reconcile the result After the import, Parley Agent reads the affected records back from Parley and reports what happened. The reconciliation distinguishes records that were: * Created * Updated * Matched with no changes required * Linked * Skipped by the approved plan * Left ambiguous * Failed and still require attention It also compares populated values against the approved column mapping so that missing fields or relationships are visible rather than concealed inside a success total. ## Example migration request Upload the export and tell Parley Agent the outcome you want: > Migrate the organizations, contacts, matters, and notes in this workbook. Preserve our matter numbers and statuses, create any resource fields we need, link each matter to the correct company and people, and show me the proposed mapping and a five-record sample before importing the rest. You can provide the source in its current form. Parley Agent will inspect it, propose the transformations, and ask you to resolve only the choices that require substantive judgment. > [!TIP] > > Growth and Enterprise plans include guided migration support. If you are moving from a legacy case-management system or need a phased migration, contact the Parley team before beginning the full run. # Overview Source: https://docs.parley.so/parley-agent/overview Use Parley Agent to profile, clean, map, import, and maintain data across your workspace. Parley Agent manages Projects, Accounts, Contacts, links, files, notes, resource fields, and reusable Skills. Alongside the drafting it performs within an individual Project, it can carry out larger operations in a controlled, reviewable, and repeatable way. Use this workflow when the work is too large or repetitive to complete one record at a time: migrating historical client and matter data, normalizing records from a legacy system, linking records at scale, reorganizing file trees, or applying the same workspace structure across many Projects. ## Two kinds of work Producing a draft, form, brief, reference letter, or packet is Project-level work. See [Projects](/projects/overview). Bulk work prepares and maintains the records and source material that make those work products possible. Parley Agent can create and organize the underlying data, files, and relationships, and it can list the work products already generated for a Project. ## When to use Parley Agent in bulk Use a bulk workflow when you need a process that is scalable, reviewable, and safe to repeat. Common examples include: * Migrating organizations, people, matters, and notes from a spreadsheet or legacy system * Creating or updating resource-field values across a defined set of records * Linking existing Accounts, Contacts, and Projects at scale * Auditing a workspace for missing, inconsistent, or duplicate data * Organizing or renaming files across a file tree * Publishing or maintaining a reusable Skill ## Where to go next > [card] [Importing data](/parley-agent/importing-data) > > Source profiling, mapping, sampling, dry runs, importing, recovery, and reconciliation. > [card] [Workspace maintenance](/parley-agent/workspace-maintenance) > > Records, fields, notes, file trees, Skills, and read-only lookups. > [card] [Guardrails](/parley-agent/workspace-maintenance#guardrails) > > Review, ambiguity handling, idempotency, and destructive-operation controls. > [card] [Document management](/connectors/document-management) > > Connecting or uploading source files after the records are in place. # Workspace maintenance Source: https://docs.parley.so/parley-agent/workspace-maintenance Manage records, fields, notes, file trees, Skills, and read-only lookups after the data is in. Parley Agent is as useful for maintaining a workspace as it is for populating one. ## Records, fields, and notes The Agent can create, inspect, update, and organize Projects, Accounts, Contacts, and their first-class relationships. It can manage organization-defined resource fields and create, update, or bulk-import shared notes. It can also list existing Projects, Accounts, Contacts, files, and generated Project outputs. This makes it useful for audits and for confirming what already exists before changing anything. ## File trees Parley Agent manages the file trees owned by Projects, Accounts, Contacts, and the firm Library. It can: * Create folders * Upload source files * Move or rename existing files and folders * Read extracted text from processed documents for review and search Moving or renaming an existing item preserves it in place. The Agent does not need to delete and re-upload hundreds of files merely to apply a new folder structure or naming convention. ## Publishing Skills Parley Agent can publish and maintain reusable Skills. When changing an existing Skill, it starts from a current copy, updates the instructions and reference materials, and publishes the reviewed version. A Skill publication mirrors the local Skill directory. Starting from the current version prevents newer reference materials from being removed accidentally when the revised Skill is published. See [Skills](/memory-and-skills/skills) for how Skills are written and used, and [Practice areas](/memory-and-skills/practice-areas) for the library Parley ships with. ## Guardrails Before changing existing data, Parley Agent inspects the relevant records and searches for possible matches. If more than one record could be the intended match, it stops for clarification rather than guessing. Bulk creation, updates, and links require review of the scope and mapping before execution. Destructive cleanup, such as deleting records or files, requires separate and explicit confirmation. The Agent does not automatically merge or delete duplicate candidates. These guardrails make a bulk operation understandable before it starts, recoverable while it runs, and auditable after it finishes. # How credits work Source: https://docs.parley.so/plans-and-billing/how-credits-work What draws from your credit balance, what doesn't, and how rollover, overages, and spending controls behave. ## Your shared balance Your balance comes from two places: * **Your plan.** Every plan contributes monthly credits, granted at the start of each billing period. A firm on Pro starts each month with 1,000 credits. * **Rollover.** Unused credits carry into the next month and join the same balance, up to 2x your plan. Every team member spends from that shared balance. The [Billing](https://app.parley.so/settings/billing) page shows the organization-wide total. ## What are credits? To use Parley's AI features, you'll need credits. Actions that you take using different Parley features will use a different number of credits, depending on how complex the action is. ### How many credits do I need? See approximately how many times per month you can take one of the following actions with the 1,000 credits included in the Pro plan. | Action | Times per month | | - | - | | Update a field | 40,000 times | | Send an agent message | 1,112 times | | Draft a legal brief | 64 times | | Fill a form | 52 times | ### What doesn't use credits Parley charges for the work its agents do, not for the work you do yourself. Everything you do on your own in Parley is free, including: * **Uploading and processing documents.** Bringing evidence, filings, and correspondence into Parley costs nothing, no matter the volume. * **Self-driving case management.** Parley keeping your fields current in the background as work gets done. * **Building your data model.** Creating new fields and the relationships that fit how your firm runs. * **Adding users.** ## Rollover credits Unused credits roll forward into the next billing period within your subscription period. Your rollover balance is capped at 2x your monthly allotment. Anything above that expires. When you use credits, rollover is drawn down first, then the current period's included credits, then overage begins. Rollover credits expire at the end of your subscription period. At renewal, your balance carries into the new term only if your new monthly allotment is equal to or greater than the one expiring. Downgrading at renewal resets the balance to your new plan. ## Going over your allowance Parley doesn't charge an overage penalty. Work past your plan's allocation is billed at the list price of \$1 per credit. When you subscribe to a Parley Plan, you receive credits at a 50% discount to the list price. Outside of your plan, you can keep working at the list price or upgrade to a plan that better fits your team's usage. **On Enterprise**, additional credits are invoiced in arrears for the preceding month. An Owner can turn overages off entirely, set credit limits for the workspace, and add email notifications. **On Pro and Growth**, you can purchase credits when you need more, or turn on auto-recharge so your balance resets automatically when you're running low. ## Spending controls ### Overages Overages let an organization keep running after it exhausts its monthly credits, at \$1.00 per additional credit. Enable them in the **Spending controls** section of the [Billing](https://app.parley.so/settings/billing) page. You configure overages per organization. An organization with overages off loses its credit-powered features until the balance resets. Use overages to absorb an occasional busy month. If your organization exceeds its balance consistently, move to a larger plan instead. ### Usage alerts Set usage alerts in the **Spending controls** section of the [Billing](https://app.parley.so/settings/billing) page to receive an email when your organization reaches a given percentage of its balance. ## Tracking usage Your billing settings show included credits, rollover balance, and what you've consumed this period. Owners and Admins can also see usage broken down by Project on the Usage page. ### Export usage activity Export your usage activity log to CSV for deeper analysis, reporting, or record-keeping. **1. Open the Usage page** Navigate to [Usage](https://app.parley.so/settings/usage) in your dashboard. **2. Set the period** Adjust the date range in the toolbar to change the period the export covers. **3. Export** Click **Export**. Parley provides your usage activity as a CSV, including the date, product, and number of messages for each event in the range. ## Getting more out of your credits ### Build Skills instead of prompting Getting to a finished deliverable through conversation means re-supplying the same context every time: your standards, your format, your tone. Then you correct the draft over several versions until it's something you're comfortable with. Each of those versions costs credits. A Skill encodes those instructions and your samples once, so the Agent starts from your requirements and produces consistent, repeatable results. Firms that invest in Skills early spend fewer credits reaching the same quality. # Plans Source: https://docs.parley.so/plans-and-billing/plans What each plan includes, how billing periods work, and how to change plans. ## What your plan includes | | **Pro** | **Growth** | **Enterprise** | | - | - | - | - | | | For solos putting Parley to work on everyday case production. | For solos and small firms running their caseload through Parley. | For firms with custom requirements. | | **Price** | \$500 per month | \$1,000 per month | Custom, annual contract | | **Users** | Up to 10 | Up to 10 | Unlimited | | **Credits** | 1,000 per month | 2,000 per month | Custom | **Pro includes:** * AI legal research, drafting, and form-filling * Self-driving fields * Skills * Microsoft Word and Outlook Add-In * Email and meeting transcript sync * Unlimited file uploads * Email and in-app support * AI model selection **Growth includes everything in Pro, plus:** * 2x the monthly AI credits * Custom Skill creation with our team * Guided firm onboarding **Enterprise includes everything in Growth, plus:** * Custom credit allotment, sized to your caseload * Advanced usage controls * Invoiced billing * Migration support * Single Sign-On (SSO) integration * SAML/SCIM provisioning * Role-Based Access Control * Data Processing Agreement * Priority support with SLAs * Custom onboarding program * AI model configuration ## Users Parley isn't priced per seat. Pro and Growth plans have a limit of 10 team members to right-size your team's credit allocation. All Enterprise plans come with unlimited users, so you can put your whole firm in Parley without deciding who gets access to the AI. Adding a user is free and never draws credits. ## Trying Parley for free The trial runs 14 days from signup. A card or ACH method is required up front, but it isn't charged during the trial. During the trial, you will receive \$500 in Parley AI credits to use over the 14-day period. At day 14 you're charged your first subscription fee, your first billing period begins, and your full monthly credit allotment is granted. Overages are disabled during the trial, so you'll never accrue a charge for going past your trial credits. If you hit the limit early and want to keep going, you can convert early and start your billing period right then. Cancel in account settings before day 14 and you're never charged. ## Changing plans **Upgrades** take effect immediately and start a new billing period the moment you upgrade. Parley charges the full subscription fee for the new tier, grants the full monthly credit allotment for the new tier, and resets your billing anniversary to the upgrade date. There's no proration of the difference and no partial credit grant. Your unused credits remain as rollover credits under the [rollover cap](/plans-and-billing/how-credits-work#rollover-credits). **Downgrades** take effect at the start of the next billing period. Your current tier's fee and credits stand until then. Unused credits do not roll over into the new billing period. Annual plans can't decrease mid-term and change at the start of the next subscription period. On Pro and Growth, only an Owner can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel. See [Permissions](/admin/permissions). On Enterprise, reach out to [founders@parley.so](mailto:founders@parley.so) and we'll handle the change with you. ### Change your plan from the dashboard Owners on Pro or Growth can switch tiers in the dashboard without contacting sales. **1. Open Billing settings** Go to [Billing](https://app.parley.so/settings/billing) in your dashboard. **2. Open Manage Plan** In the credit balance card, click **Manage Plan** to open the plan picker. **3. Pick a plan and confirm** Select Pro or Growth and review the confirmation screen. Upgrades take effect immediately and start a new billing period on the spot. Downgrades are scheduled for the end of your current billing period, and you keep full access and credits until then. If you've scheduled a downgrade and change your mind, reopen **Manage Plan** and cancel the scheduled change before it takes effect. ## Next > [card] [How credits work](/plans-and-billing/how-credits-work) > > What draws from your balance, what's free, and how rollover and overages behave. > [card] [Pricing and usage FAQs](/plans-and-billing/pricing-faqs) > > Common questions about seats, document processing, and running out of credits. # Pricing and usage FAQs Source: https://docs.parley.so/plans-and-billing/pricing-faqs Common questions about seats, document processing, credit estimates, and running out of credits. ## I'm an existing customer. What changes for me? If you're on an annual Enterprise plan, nothing changes. Your contract stands as written. If you'd like to move to the usage-based model, reach out and we'll go through your usage to date in depth and size the right plan with you. If you're on a monthly plan, nothing happens without talking to us first. We'll reach out with your specific usage numbers before anything changes. ## Do you charge per user? No. Pro and Growth have a limit of 10 users each to right-size credit usage. Enterprise plans have unlimited users. ## Does uploading our documents cost credits? No. Document upload and processing are free, no matter the volume, and so is the self-driving case management that runs on top of them. We don't want your team hesitating to put a file in Parley. ## How do I know how many credits we'll need? Most firms never have to think about it. If you're not sure where you'd land, talk to us and we'll size it with you based on your caseload and the kinds of filings you run. After a month of real usage, check the [Usage](https://app.parley.so/settings/usage) page and [contact sales](https://www.parley.so/contact-us) to discuss a custom credit package. ## What happens if we use our full credit allocation? It depends on your spending controls. With overages enabled, work continues and additional credits are billed at \$1 per credit, invoiced in arrears on Enterprise. With overages off, credit-powered features pause until your balance resets. On Pro and Growth, buy a credit pack or turn on auto-recharge so the work doesn't stop. ## Do credits roll over? Yes, within your subscription period, up to a cap of 2x your monthly allotment. Rollover is drawn down before your current period's credits. At renewal, the balance carries into the new term if your new monthly allotment is equal to or greater than the expiring one. Downgrading at renewal clears it. ## How do I track credit usage? In your billing settings. Owners and Admins see a breakdown by Project, and you can set alerts so you know before you reach your allowance. You can also export the full usage log to CSV from the Usage page. ## Still have questions? For pricing conversations, custom credit packages, or anything about your specific plan, [contact sales](https://www.parley.so/contact-us). For everything else, reach the team at [founders@parley.so](mailto:founders@parley.so). # Project Overview Source: https://docs.parley.so/projects/overview A Project is one matter. Everything the case needs, and everything Parley produces for it, lives here. A Project holds the evidence you upload, the work products Parley generates, the notes your team writes, and the case's shared memory, so a draft, an index, and a compilation of exhibits created weeks apart still align to one another.\ \ A Project may also relate to an internal initiative or client work across multiple matters. Projects are used when dense and detailed document processing is required to inform complex work. Starting work in a Project rather than a chat thread is the single highest-leverage habit in Parley. * A chat thread is best for quick iterations and standalone research questions. * A Project stores a memory, can process and search over thousands of files, and organizes all related work products in a single place for your team to collaborate on. ## Your first project The fastest way to understand Parley is to run one real matter through it. **1. Create the Project** From the Projects page, select "+ Create Project" or just tell the Agent directly. A Project is typically one-to-one with a matter. Everything the case needs, and everything Parley produces for it, will live here. **2. Upload the evidence** Drag the case files in from your desktop, or upload directly from Google Drive, Dropbox, Microsoft SharePoint, Box, or Clio. Upload and processing are free at any volume, so bring everything the case actually has rather than a curated subset. **3. Link the Account and Contact** Ask the Agent to link the Project to an Account and Contact related to the matter. This is what lets Parley reach reusable information across matters, such as the company's letterhead, prior filings, and client background without you needing to attach them to every matter. **4. Produce a draft** Select **Run Skill** and choose a Skill, or just ask directly in the Project chat. The Agent works from your Project (files, notes, and fields) and any linked Accounts or Contacts. Kick off a Skill and walk away if you like. The Project shows what's in progress, and you'll get a notification when it's done. **5. Compile an exhibit packet** Now ask for the packet. Parley organizes the evidence, creates divider pages, and compiles a PDF of all of your files. Because the draft and the packet share the Project's memory, evidence cited in your index and the brief should align to the PDF compilation. **6. Review and correct** Open the draft in Microsoft Word and open Parley's [Microsoft Word Add-In](/addins/parley-for-word) to review edits as tracked, word-level redlines. Where the draft is wrong in a way that will be wrong again, tell Parley to create or improve your drafting Skill. Iterating on Skills is the most efficient way to improve Parley's work. > [!TIP] > > Already started your work outside of a Project? Ask Parley to create a Project from what you've been working on, and it carries your files and work across. ## What to notice * **The Review Updates panel** on the homepage has suggested field updates drawn directly from what has been uploaded to a Project, Account, or Contact. Accepting these updates is how the case database builds itself. * **The Activity Log** in the Project contains a fulsome record of your document uploads, note creations, field updates, emails sent and received, and any deletions. Changes recorded in the activity log are retrievable and auditable by the Parley Agent. * **Everything stored in Parley is searchable by Parley.** You don't have to structure data a particular way to be able to ask for it later. ## What lives on a Project * **Files and evidence**, organized into folders and subfolders. * **Work products** the Agent generates: briefs, forms, packets, and letters, versioned and kept in one place. * **Notes**, free-form context that isn't in any evidence document. * **The Activity Log**, including all updates to the Project, related emails, and any changes to linked records. * **Fields** such as case status and target deadlines, which Parley keeps current on its own. ## Where to go next > [card] [Working in a Project](/projects/working-in-a-project) > > Produce drafts, compile exhibit packets, keep notes, and manage long threads. > [card] [Skills](/memory-and-skills/skills) > > Codify how your firm builds this case type so the next one starts closer to final. > [card] [Objects](/self-driving/objects) > > How Projects, Accounts, and Contacts relate, and what belongs on each. > [card] [Document management](/connectors/document-management) > > Sync Projects with your document management system so files arrive on their own. # Working in a Project Source: https://docs.parley.so/projects/working-in-a-project Produce drafts, compile exhibit packets, keep notes, and manage long threads once the Project is set up. Once the evidence is in and the records are linked, everything else happens on top of the Project. The Agent works from the Project's files, notes, fields, and linked Accounts and Contacts rather than only what you paste into a message. ## Producing work Open the Project and chat on top of it, or select **Run Skill** and choose a Skill. A few things worth knowing: * Work products save automatically under the Workflows tab, so your team can keep iterating. * Click any workflow to open it in a resizable side-by-side preview. * Kick off a Skill run and walk away. The Project shows which drafts are in progress, so you can pick up where you left off without watching the Agent work. * **Export All** zips every work product in the Project into a single download. ## Exhibit packets Ask the Agent to assemble a packet and it organizes the evidence, creates divider pages, and compiles the PDF against your template shell or finalized index. Because the exhibit compilation and related legal briefs draw on the same shared memory, the index and the brief reference the same exhibits in the same order. ## Project Notes Notes are a free-form editor for case information that isn't in an evidence document: a consultation summary, a writing plan, a running log of what the client still owes you. Create one from the Notes tab in a Project or just tell the Parley Agent directly. The Agent reads Notes and can write back to them. Two patterns worth considering: * Ask the Agent to write a case strategy note that outlines the petition and cites the key evidence, then use that note to guide research, client follow-ups, and the first draft. * Complete a form and Parley writes a QA note for you, flagging missing evidence and conflicting or ambiguous field inputs. ## Long threads When you reopen a long chat thread that's been idle, Parley offers to continue in a fresh thread from a summary, carrying your files and work products over. Taking it up keeps the Agent fast and the output sharp. ## Where to go next > [card] [Skills](/memory-and-skills/skills) > > Codify how your firm builds this case type so the next one starts closer to final. > [card] [Parley for Word](/addins/parley-for-word) > > Review the Agent's drafts as tracked, word-level redlines inside Word. > [card] [Objects](/self-driving/objects) > > How Projects, Accounts, and Contacts relate, and what belongs on each. > [card] [Document management](/connectors/document-management) > > Sync Projects with your document management system so files arrive on their own. # Routines Source: https://docs.parley.so/routines/overview Schedule the Agent to run recurring work on a daily, weekly, or monthly cadence. A Routine is the Agent on a schedule. Anything you'd ask it to do on a Monday morning, it can do every Monday morning without you asking, and put the result in your inbox. ## What Routines are for The recurring work that never quite gets done on time: * A Monday report of every matter with a deadline in the next 30 days * A weekly digest of cases with no activity, so nothing goes quiet unnoticed * A monthly roll-up of filings by attorney or by case type * A standing check on receipt numbers and case status across open matters If you find yourself running the same query every week, that's a Routine. ## Creating one Ask the Agent for the output you want, then ask it to run on a schedule: > "Every Monday at 8am, send me the matters with a target date in the next 30 days, grouped by attorney." Pick a daily, weekly, or monthly cadence. Parley reads schedule times in your time zone, so "8am" means 8am where you are. You can also turn a task you just finished in chat into a recurring one: > "Do this again every Friday at 4pm." The Agent writes the instructions from what worked in the conversation and confirms the schedule with you before it creates the Routine. After it's created, the Agent can start a trial run so you see a real report right away. ### How Routines work * **Ownership.** A Routine belongs to the person who created it. Each run acts with that person's access. * **Schedules.** A Routine can have more than one schedule, for example weekdays at 8am and Sundays at 6pm. Schedules use the owner's time zone, and the fastest allowed schedule is hourly. A Routine with no schedule only runs when you start it. * **Stopping on an event.** A Routine that watches for one event, like "tell me when the case is approved," can pause itself once that event happens. ## Managing Routines The Agent can set up and manage your Routines from chat. Ask it to: * List your Routines * Check on a run's status * Change the schedule * Change the instructions * Run it now * Pause, resume, or delete Changes take effect on the next run. A run already in progress finishes with the instructions it started with. The Agent tells you whether a run finished and, if it failed, why. ## Notifications Parley's notification center collects case updates, approaching dates, and finished Agent and Routine runs into a single inbox, reachable from a popover in your sidebar so you never lose your place. You can set notifications for any date tracked in Parley from Settings. If there's a date your firm cares about that isn't tracked yet, an Owner or Admin can ask the Agent to add it, and your team can subscribe to alerts as those deadlines approach. See [Case management](/self-driving/overview). ## Credits Routines draw credits per run. Simple runs cost less, complex ones more. A daily Routine across a large caseload is the kind of thing worth checking on the [Usage](https://app.parley.so/settings/usage) page after a couple of weeks. See [How credits work](/plans-and-billing/how-credits-work). # Security and compliance Source: https://docs.parley.so/security-and-compliance/overview How Parley protects your firm's confidential client data, and the standards we follow. Law firms trust Parley with confidential client matters. This page summarizes how we protect that data and the standards we follow. For full details, visit our [Trust Center](https://trust.parley.so/). ## SOC 2 Parley undergoes System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2 Type 2 audits of the design and operating effectiveness of our security controls. ## GDPR Parley is compliant with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We act as a data processor for the personal data our customers store in Parley, and we support our customers in meeting their obligations as data controllers. For personal data transferred from the EU, the UK, and Switzerland, Parley is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. DPF, and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and uses Standard Contractual Clauses where another transfer mechanism is required. [Contact us](mailto:founders@parley.so) if you require a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) or have questions about how we handle personal data. ## Your data Your firm owns its data. Everything your team uploads to Parley, and everything Parley generates from it, remains your firm's property and is treated as your confidential information. We never use your content or generated work product to train, fine-tune, or otherwise develop AI models that are deployed for or accessible to other customers. ## Security controls Our security program includes: * Encryption of data in transit and at rest * Multi-factor authentication and least-privilege access, with regular access reviews * Automated backups and tested disaster recovery plans * Centralized audit logging, monitoring, and a documented incident response and breach notification process * Annual penetration testing, continuous vulnerability scanning, and automated patching * Confidentiality agreements and annual security training for all personnel See the full list of controls in our [Trust Center](https://trust.parley.so/?tab=securityControls). ## Subprocessors Parley uses a limited set of vetted subprocessors, including cloud infrastructure and AI model providers, to deliver the service. The current list is available in our [Trust Center](https://trust.parley.so/). ## Access controls in your workspace Who can see what inside your firm is governed by roles. Owners can see every Project, including private ones, and are the only role with access to billing. See [Permissions](/admin/permissions). ## Reporting a security issue For security reviews, questionnaires, or compliance documentation, start at the [Trust Center](https://trust.parley.so/) or contact your Parley account team. # Field types Source: https://docs.parley.so/self-driving/field-types The typed custom fields available on Accounts, Contacts, and Projects, and when to use each. Custom fields are typed. The field type tells Parley how to validate, store, display, and use the value, which is what makes the field usable by agents rather than just readable by people. | Type | Use it for | | - | - | | **Text** | Labels, identifiers, short descriptions | | **Number** | Counts, amounts, scores, measurements | | **Boolean** | Clear yes/no facts | | **Date** | Deadlines, expiration dates, target dates | | **Datetime** | Appointments, filing events | | **Email** | A structured email address on the record | | **URL** | A website, portal link, durable external reference | | **Address** | A durable postal address on the record | | **Single-select** | One controlled value from a defined set | | **Collection** | Tags, categories, languages, and other repeatable values | ## Creating fields Owners and Admins create fields. Tell the Agent what you want: > "Add a Matter Number field to Projects and a Max-Out Date field to Contacts." Parley attaches them to your Projects, Accounts, and Contacts. You can also add and edit them directly in Settings. The fields Parley ships with are there for inspiration. They're fully flexible to how your firm runs. See [Permissions](/admin/permissions). # Self-driving fields Source: https://docs.parley.so/self-driving/fields What makes a field self-driving, how to design one, and what you get in return. A self-driving field is more than a place to store data. It's a structured signal that helps Parley understand what the record is, where it belongs, and what work may be relevant next. ## The four properties ### Structure The field has a known type rather than an arbitrary string. See [Field types](/self-driving/field-types). ### Consistency The same field definition is used across records of the same object type. ### Context The field is attached to the correct Account, Contact, or Project. ### Actionability Agents and workflows can use the value to select context, identify missing information, prioritize work, or generate appropriate outputs. A Project field named `Case Status` is more useful than a paragraph saying "the case is currently pending." Because the value is structured, Parley recognizes the same concept across Projects and uses it consistently. > [!NOTE] > > Self-driving doesn't mean every field automatically performs an action. It means the field is designed to participate in the system, guiding organization, retrieval, reasoning, reporting, and future automation. ## Designing fields that self-drive well **A good field answers one stable question.** Prefer `Case Status`, `Target Date`, `Country of Citizenship`, `Current Immigration Status`, `Receipt Number`. Avoid fields that combine several questions or require prose parsing, like `Important Case Details` or `Status and Next Steps`. A field that needs to be read to be understood can't be filtered, compared, or acted on. **Use the narrowest useful type.** A date for a date. A number for a number. A boolean for a yes/no fact. A single-select for a controlled category. A collection for multiple labels. A note for narrative context. A file for source evidence. **Keep fields stable over time.** If a value changes frequently and the history matters, preserve the history in activity, notes, or source documents rather than overwriting the only record of what happened. ## What you get ### Better retrieval Typed fields help Parley distinguish relevant records from unrelated ones. A Project's status or target date becomes a reliable signal, without interpreting inconsistent prose. ### Better context selection When an agent works on a Project, the linked Accounts, Contacts, fields, notes, and files form a coherent context. The field tells the agent what kind of work it's handling; the links tell it who and what the work concerns. ### Better completeness checks A structured field makes missing information visible. A blank target date, a missing status, or an absent country of citizenship becomes an identifiable data gap rather than something overlooked inside a paragraph. ### Better reporting and filtering Consistent types and controlled options make it possible to group and compare records. This is why `Filed` shouldn't sometimes be entered as `filed`, `Submitted`, or "sent to USCIS." If the concepts differ, use separate fields or options. If they're the same, use one controlled value. ### Better work products Agents use field values alongside files and notes when producing drafts, forms, letters, and packets. The field supplies structured facts, the files supply evidence, the notes supply operational interpretation. ## Capturing facts once By capturing each fact once, in the correct object and the correct type, Parley can organize context, identify gaps, support retrieval, guide workflows, and help agents produce better work with less manual reconstruction. See [Where information belongs](/self-driving/where-information-belongs) for how to decide, and [Case management](/self-driving/overview) for how Parley keeps these fields current on its own. # Objects Source: https://docs.parley.so/self-driving/objects How Parley organizes people, organizations, and work into Accounts, Contacts, and Projects. Parley is built around a small set of durable objects that work together: **Accounts**, **Contacts**, and **Projects**. Around those records, Parley organizes files, notes, relationships, generated work products, and activity from connected systems. The central design principle: > Store each fact in the object and format that best preserves its meaning, then let Parley use those facts to drive context, organization, and work. ## The core objects ### Accounts An Account represents an organization or other institutional entity: a company employing a beneficiary, a corporate client, a university, nonprofit, or government agency, or a partner law firm. Accounts hold information belonging to the organization as a whole: its name, website, business context, reusable documents, and organization-level custom fields. An Account can be linked to many Projects, and associated with Contacts who work for, represent, or otherwise belong to it. ### Contacts A Contact represents an individual person: a client or beneficiary, an employee of an Account, a witness, recommender, signatory, or attorney, or a family member participating in a matter. A Contact may optionally be associated with an Account, and may be linked to many Projects. Contact-level information should describe **the person**, not necessarily a particular matter: citizenship, passport information, email address, a general professional overview. ### Projects A Project is Parley's container for a body of work. Your practice may call it a matter, case, engagement, petition, or filing. The underlying object is the same. A Project brings together the Accounts and Contacts involved, Project-specific custom fields, source files and folders, notes and working context, generated outputs such as drafts, forms, packets, and letters, and activity from the people and organizations connected to the work. A Project should hold facts and documents specific to **that body of work**. ## How records relate Parley uses explicit relationships rather than requiring you to encode everything in text fields. ```text theme={null} Account 1 ──── many Contacts │ │ │ └──── many Projects └─────────────────── many Projects ``` In practice: * An Account can be linked to zero or more Projects. * A Contact can be linked to zero or more Projects. * A Project can be linked to zero or more Accounts and zero or more Contacts. * A Contact may optionally belong to an Account. * Linking a Contact to a Project can also bring its associated Account into that Project when needed. * Unlinking a record removes the relationship. It does not delete the Account, Contact, or Project. These relationships answer questions fields alone cannot: * Which Projects involve this Account? * Which Contacts are associated with this organization? * Who is involved in this Project? * Which work belongs to the same client or employer? ## Linking records To link records that already exist, ask the Agent: > "Link this Project to the petitioner's Account and to the beneficiary's Contact." Parley searches your firm's work and makes the connection. Linking improves work products, because Parley reaches the Account for letterhead, reusable exhibits, and company background without you re-attaching them case by case. It also keeps tracking current, because dates on a Contact update from the files in the Projects they're on. ## Creating records Create them in the UI, or ask the Agent. Uploading client documentation to the chat and describing what you want is usually faster: > "Create a Contact for each beneficiary, save them to an Account, and link the accounts and contacts." For a bulk migration, see [Importing data](/parley-agent/importing-data). > [!NOTE] > > Everything on a record is searchable by chat. You don't need to turn a detail into a field just to find it later. Ask, and Parley searches the files and notes across every Project, Account, and Contact. # Case management Source: https://docs.parley.so/self-driving/overview Parley keeps your case fields current from the work you're already doing. Manually filling out fields is burdensome and error-prone, and a case database that depends on someone remembering to update it is a case database that's wrong. Parley searches your casework for key details and updates fields automatically as the case progresses. Your firm does the work in Parley. The case management takes care of itself. ## How it works As you upload evidence, draft, and correspond, Parley reads what's there and reconciles it against the fields on the matter, company, and person. A receipt notice lands in a Project and the receipt number, status, and dates follow from it. An offer letter arrives and the employer details update. Nothing about this is a separate step. It runs on the context you're already using to draft. ## Review Updates A **Review Updates** panel on the Parley homepage shows suggested field updates based on your work. Accept them to build out your records and improve the Agent's context on future runs. Treat the panel as a queue rather than a notification. Working through it regularly is what makes the rest of the system trustworthy. ## USCIS case tracking Create a Project and upload a receipt notice. Parley pulls out the receipt number, suggests it as a field, and sends the latest update from USCIS as an in-app notification. The full USCIS case timeline is available from the Activity Log inside any Project, so you can see where a case sits without leaving the matter. Ask the Agent about USCIS addresses or fees and it pulls from up-to-date sources, so cover letters are ready to file. ## Critical dates and notifications Parley's notification center collects case updates, approaching dates, and finished Agent and Routine runs into a single inbox, reachable from a popover in your sidebar. You can set notifications for any date tracked in Parley from Settings. If your firm cares about a date that isn't tracked yet, an Owner or Admin can ask the Agent to add it as a field, and the team can subscribe to alerts as those deadlines approach. ## Making it work well ### Put the work in Parley Self-driving fields run on the documents and notes attached to a matter. A case worked outside Parley and summarized into it won't keep itself current. ### Link your records Dates on a Contact update from the files in the Projects they're on. Without the link, there's nothing to read. See [Objects](/self-driving/objects). ### Create fields for what you actually track Start with the handful your firm reports on, such as status, target deadline, and matter number, and add more as you find yourself asking for them. ## Credits Self-driving case management doesn't draw credits, and neither does uploading or processing the documents it reads. See [How credits work](/plans-and-billing/how-credits-work). # Where information belongs Source: https://docs.parley.so/self-driving/where-information-belongs How to choose between native properties, custom fields, notes, files, outputs, email, and calendar. Parley gives each kind of information an appropriate home. The most reliable system does not collapse them into one record type. ## The layers ```text theme={null} Calendar events = what is scheduled Emails = what was communicated Notes = what should be remembered Files = what was documented Fields = what is structurally true ``` Together these make a record useful without making any single layer carry every kind of information. ## Native properties Built-in attributes that define the identity or basic structure of a record: a Project name, an Account name, a Contact's name, an Account association on a Contact. ## Custom fields Custom fields, also called resource fields, are organization-defined, typed attributes attached to Accounts, Contacts, or Projects. They're for structured information that should be consistently captured, filtered, reported on, exported, or used to guide downstream work. See [Field types](/self-driving/field-types). ## Notes Narrative context attached to an Account, Contact, or Project. Use a note for information that's important for future work but doesn't fit naturally into a typed field: intake summaries, case strategy, relationship background, open questions, internal instructions, explanations of facts, meeting or call summaries. A note is durable context, not a replacement for a source document or a structured field. ## Files Source artifacts: agreements, identity documents, correspondence, reports, pleadings, exhibits, templates. Each Account, Contact, and Project can own a file tree with folders and documents. Projects commonly hold matter-specific evidence and work papers, while Accounts and Contacts hold reusable or person-specific documents. Parley extracts text from supported documents, so agents can search and reason over the contents without every fact being copied into a note or field. ## A practical example A firm handling an employment-based immigration filing: * The employer is an **Account**. * The employee is a **Contact** linked to that Account. * The filing is a **Project** linked to both. * `Current Immigration Status` belongs on the Contact, because it describes the person generally. * `Case Status`, `Receipt Number`, and `Target Date` belong on the Project, because they describe the filing. * The employment agreement and identity documents are **Files**. * A summary of the client's explanation of a complicated travel history is a **Note**. * The consultation appointment is stored as a **Calendar event**. * The client's instructions sent by email remain **Email correspondence** associated with the Contact. * A filing checklist or generated support letter is a **Generated output** organized in a Project as a Workflow. # Tables Source: https://docs.parley.so/tables/overview Ask the same set of questions across hundreds of documents at once and get structured answers back. A Table asks one set of questions across a whole set of documents and returns the answers in a grid. Each row is a document or a matter, each column is a question, and every cell is the Agent's answer to that question about that row. It's the tool for the work that's too big to read one file at a time and too specific to search for. ## What firms use them for * **Medical billing:** itemize charges, adjustments, payments, and liens across providers' bills, with each amount cited to its source page * **Deadline tracking:** pull limitations, notice of claim, and filing date from the case file, with how each was derived and where it came from * **Evidence evaluation:** run the criteria for a case type across every exhibit and see which ones actually carry weight * **Intake review:** pull dates, employers, and status from a stack of client documents at once * **Wage and HR data:** extract structured figures from client spreadsheets and filings ## Building one Add the documents or matters as rows, then define your columns as questions. Write columns as prompts and define the field type of the structured response. ## Working with results * Hover over any cell and click the pencil to edit the value directly in Parley before exporting. * Sort and filter to find the rows. * Export to CSV or XLSX when the table is the deliverable, or feed the results into a draft.
